10 Most Beautiful Birds in India

India is well known for its diverse wildlife. Over 1300 species of birds are found in the Indian subcontinent.

Here is the list of 10 of the most beautiful birds found in India.

Indian Peafowl:
Peafowls are among the largest of all birds that fly. These birds are native to India and Srilanka. In 1963, peafowl was declared the national bird of India.

Bee Eater:
Bee Eaters have a bright plumage. They are fast and fierce as missile when it comes to securing a meal. With its voracious appetite, it can finish off around 225 insects a day.

Red Whiskered Bulbul:
A medium sized songbird. They are native to Southern Asia. It has unique crimson tufts below the eye.

Hornbill:
9 different species of hornbills are found in India. They live in dense forests. They are disperser of seeds of many forest plants, hence play a crucial role in keeping the forest alive. Hornbills love to eat fruits, figs and wild berries. Most hornbill species are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.

Kalij Pheasant:
A distinct pheasant with bare red facial skin. Native to South and Southeast Asia. Found in forested areas, usually in hilly or mountainous regions.

Eurasian Hoopoe:
Notable for their distinctive crown of feathers. Hoopoes are the only existing member of a unique family of birds: Upupidae. They fly on rounded zebra striped wings, fluttering unevenly like a giant butterfly.

Red Junglefowl:
The Red junglefowl is one of the four junglefowls found in the Indian subcontinent. Red Junglefowls are the prime ancestors of the domestic chicken. Its strikingly colorful plumes and majestic red comb makes it a beautiful bird. They are attracted to areas with ripe fruits or seeds, including fruit plantations.

White Throated Kingfisher:
Predominantly brown with electric blue back and wings. It has a snow white patch from the throat through the breast. It is widely distributed over the Indian subcontinent.

Ruddy Shelduck:
Striking and distinctive gooselike duck. Ruddy Shelduck is widely known as Brahminy Duck in India. Their wings are white with black flight feathers. Usually found in pairs or small groups and rarely forms large flocks.

Indian Roller:
The beauty of the Indian Roller is captivating in every way. In flight, it flaunts the brilliant combination of colors on its feathers. It is found in thin forests and grasslands. It mostly feed on insects and small reptiles.
