Tamboti (Spirostachys africana): The Tree That Makes You Thunder!

Beautiful to look at and its timber has a scent like sandalwood. But be careful. If you inhale its smoke, you'll be running for the toilet in double quick time! This is the Tamboti tree, Spirostachys africana - found in the Limpopo basin of Southern Africa. Full of magical mystery, known for its medicinal properties, and spectacular in its autumnal colours. In this episode, Gus Le Breton (the African Plant Hunter) shares with us some of the folklore around this tree while visiting the magnificent Gonarezhou National Park in southern Zimbabwe.
