The Run Pass Option (RPO)!

The RPO, or run pass option, is a designed run play, but the quarterback has certain reads where he can hand the ball off, or decide to throw it to a designated receiver. If the QB decides to throw downfield, it has to be quick because of the illegal man downfield rules. In college, if a lineman is 3 yards past the line of scrimmage, it is illegal man downfield. In the NFL, its only one yard. So, both offenses and defenses need to adjust their coaching keys on the different levels.
