Key Notes: Pattern interruption forces your subconscious mind into a state where it waits for information by your conscious mind. It helps you break unhelpful habits and re-program your subconscious mind so your subconscious becomes a messenger receiving instructions from the conscious mind.

How to prevent anxiety through a pattern interrupt:

1. Decide on a particular behaviour you’d like to change, make sure it’s an automatic behaviour you do without thinking about it like eating junk food or watching tv.

2. Write down in your journal exactly what you would like to change.

3. Start observing how the pattern runs and at what point do you experience the urge to do that behaviour. How do you make a choice out of the many options you have? Record your decision making process in detail in your journal.

4. Complete a pattern interrupt completely alien to the behaviour you wish to change (for example when you get the urge to do the normal behaviour, fold some clothes or drink some water) this pattern interrupt is completely different than the normal pattern/behaviour. This pattern interrupt has to jolt you. Write down in detail the new behaviour you’re going to implement.

5. Every time you get the urge to use the normal behaviour, engage in your new pattern interrupt behaviour. Be relentless, in time the new pattern will overtake the old and you will truly understand how to prevent anxiety from forming.
