"Private Dancer" is the fifth solo album by the American singer Tina Turner. It is her most successful album and made her breakthrough as a solo artist worldwide. The album consists partly of new compositions, partly from cover versions; Turner did not participate in the songwriting process. Musically, the album is characterized by a mix of rock, R&B, pop and new wave elements. This is a departure from the earlier soul releases with her ex-husband Ike Turner. After several commercially unsuccessful solo releases, private dancer is considered Tina Turner's big breakthrough as a solo artist. In 1985 she won four Grammy Awards with the album; three for "What's Love Got To Do With It" and one for "Better Be Good To Me".
