History:

This helicopter became registered in Germany as D-HZSF with Mode-S Hex: 3E167D and is operated for emergency medical services by the German Civil Protection (Luftrettung) since 2007. It had to get its engine replaced after some kind of malfunction while stationed at Traunstein on the 7th of September 2014. 17 volunteers of the THW Freising team and the technicians from the Federal Police (Bundespolizei) successfully repaired the aircraft with the additional help of a THW mobile crane as the helicopter was still on the hospital's roof helipad.

On the 18th of August 2019 at 11:10 a.m. LT, this helicopter while operated as RTH Christoph 3 out of Cologne Bonn International (CGN) was scrambled to a reported person floating in the Rhine in Bonn. After several rounds across the Rhine, the person was found on the riverbank. The RTH crew landed next to the person on a pedestrian path. The crew assisted in the rescue of a person but was driven by road via a police car to the North Bridge during the rescue, where a person had jumped and was fatally injured. After the death was determined, the crew wanted to depart for their home base. Shortly before the engine started at 1:15 p.m., it was noticed that something was wrong, so the engines were switched off again. The second attempt also produced strange noises, so the take-off was aborted. It turned out that the starter shaft broke so that only one of the two engines was functioning. Two mechanics from the Federal Police out of Hangelar, who maintain the helicopters on behalf of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, waited for about 3.5 hours for the arrival of spares to change the starter shaft. Since the required tools were missing, the maintenance staff had to be driven back to Hangelar in the meantime to get them. The part was installed around 8:00 p.m. After a test run, the helicopter started at 8:30 p.m. towards the airport in Cologne / Bonn.

Operated as Christoph 3 out of Cologne Bonn International January 2021.

On the 1st of January 2022, Christoph 3 was called to an emergency due to the unavailability of an emergency doctor on the ground. The doctor of Christoph 3 was flown to the Netto supermarket car park from where he was picked up by road ambulance. The doctor then decides to move the patient by road to a hospital in Bonn. The doctor accompanied the patient and the helicopter crew followed him to the University Hospital Bonn.
