Sonny Rollins (born Theodore Walter Rollins, 1930) is a legendary, retired American jazz tenor saxophonist and composer, widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures in jazz history, known for his powerful sound, thematic improvisation, and iconic compositions like "St. Thomas" and "Oleo". He had a prolific career spanning decades, recording with jazz giants like Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and Charlie Parker, and received numerous accolades including the National Medal of Arts.
