Dr. Yoonsoo Kim is an astrophysicist working at Caltech. He just completed his physics PhD this spring at Caltech, and he will become a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton this fall. His research focuses on the modeling and simulation of black holes and their accretion disks, accounting for hydrodynamics, magnetic fields, and relativistic effects. This presentation highlights one of his recent groundbreaking discoveries: how black holes behave while spinning and passing through a medium of gas, a very common occurrence for many black holes in our Universe.
