On April 6, 2025, a man vandalized the Bom Jesus das Oliveira's Parish in Itaim Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil, destroying sacred images of Bom Jesus and Santa Edwiges. Security footage captured the suspect entering the church between masses and deliberately knocking the images from their altars to the floor, repeatedly throwing them down. Reacting on social media, the parish authorities reported the incident as vandalism. Fr. Genaldo Laurindo, the parish priest, believes that the man attacked the images in frustration as he was unable to speak with him. No injuries were reported.
