First-Year California Native Garden in December (1 Year Since Planting!)

Описание к видео First-Year California Native Garden in December (1 Year Since Planting!)

What does a California Native Plant Garden look like one year after it's planted? What do California Native Plants look like in December? How do I keep deer from eating my plants? I don't have all of the answers, but I'm learning every day!

In this December update of my California Native Plant Garden in the Central Sierra Nevada foothills, I review all of the plants that I've planted over the past year. Most of the plants are at the end of their first year. Some of the plants are on their second or third year, and some of the plants I discuss were just planted last month.

The biggest challenge I have is deer. The deer eat almost everything, but the deer do not eat sage plants. Deer also don't seem to like Penstemon very much. The larger plants are all caged so that they can grow tall enough that they're not within reach of the deer. Deer oh deer. What ever will we do!

Here are some of the plants that I discuss in this video:
Allen Chickering Sage
Beach Wormwood
Big Sagebrush
California Buckeye
California Buckwheat
Bush Monkeyflower
California Buttonbush
California Sagebrush
Celestial Blue Sage
Chapparal Honeysuckle
Common Snowberry

I hope that a few folks who might be trying to grow a native garden in the very unique environment of the California Sierra foothills are able to find these videos and learn from my mistakes! I'm in Zone 9b, in Coarsegold California.
