Facing severe challenges like extreme heat, water scarcity and reduced rainfall, the Mediterranean region is especially vulnerable to climate change. But it also holds significant potential for renewable energy development, including solar and wind power. Building the necessary infrastructure requires important investments and cooperation with like-minded actors. Europe and the Southern Neighbourhood have converging interests to diversify energy resources and advance the green transition.

This panel discussion explored the challenges the Mediterranean is facing and analysed the potential for the EU and the Southern Neighbourhood to foster greater cooperation towards the energy transition. Simultaneously, the discussion also assessed the role of external actors, such as the US, as well as the implications of the war in Ukraine.
