ℹ️ BACKGROUND OF THE PHOTO PROJECT:


The 38-road construction project, also known as Siem Reap 2.0, the biggest infrastructure project in the history of Siem Reap, took place from December 2020 to December 2021 and put literaly the streets of the temple city up side down. It aimed to transform Siem Reap in a tourism hub for years to come




🧑📸​ THE PHOTOGRAPHER


Laurent Dambies is a travel and photography guide based in Siem Reap since 2013, running photography tours in Cambodia and South East Asia. He is practicing a wide range of photography such as ancient temples, landscapes, street photography, and astrophotography.
“I started taking pictures and videos of the roadwork project regularly in March 2021. Pub Street and the surrounding area had never been my favorite area for photography before as I was mainly taking pictures of the temples of Angkor, countryside, pagodas, and markets around Siem Reap”. The roadworks were a unique opportunity to do street photography and capture moments in time. My favorite time of the day to take pictures was early in the morning and in the evening when it is easier to play with shadows and light, waiting for the opportunity to get the right shot and capture a specific moment in time.
"One of my most surreal experiences was to shoot Pub Street and the surrounding back alleys just before the lockdown on April 10th. Another interesting period for photography was when the streets were cut wide open to install the sewage and rain drainage network.
Sivatha road was the last road I documented in November and December, ending this 8-month photo project.
Hopefully, this series of pictures will serve as a testimonial of the roadworks, probably the biggest infrastructure project in the history of Siem Reap."
