Ever since I was a kid I've been making 'things' because it's my way of thinking and making sense of the world around me. It might happen through the refinement of the 'thing' or subconsciously while absorbed in the process of creating.

What's special about a surfboard is that when my journey is finished, someone else picks up the board and starts a new and completely different journey of thinking and creating through the act of surfing it. I get to witness a small part of this journey and that gets me thinking some more and creating all over again. It's an endless feedback loop. I could make other 'things' like maybe a chair for example (no offence to all my wonderful woodworking friends)...but I don't think I'd get the same level of creative feedback that keeps me buzzing.

Here we are part way through the feedback loop. My journey with this new shorter 6'8" ELLIPSA is finished and Torren Martyn is starting his own journey of thinking and creating with this 'thing'.
