Hoy hacemos un recorrido por el Palacio San Martín en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

El Palacio San Martín, también llamado Palacio Anchorena, es la sede ceremonial de la Cancillería de la República Argentina, dependiente del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y está situado frente a la Plaza San Martín en el barrio de Retiro de Buenos Aires.

El palacio de estilo Bellas Artes fue diseñado para Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena, miembro de una de las familias más representativas de la aristocracia porteña, por el arquitecto Alejandro Christophersen en 1905. Construido a partir de 1909, fue inaugurado por la familia Anchorena para conmemorar el centenario de la declaración de la Independencia Argentina. Desde su edificación y durante los veinte años en que fue propiedad de la familia Anchorena fue conocido popularmente como el Palacio Anchorena, hasta que en 1936 fue adquirido por el gobierno argentino y se convirtió en la sede del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, pasándose a llamar Palacio San Martín. En el año 1993 se inauguró el Edificio Cancillería (Buenos Aires), un moderno edificio para el funcionamiento de ese Ministerio, quedando el tradicional palacio como la sede ceremonial de la Cancillería Argentina.

El palacio contiene muchas obras de arte de artistas argentinos y americanos del siglo XX, como Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, Lino Enea Spilimbergo y Roberto Matta, además se encuentra en él una colección de arte Precolombina y una biblioteca especializada en derecho internacional y de historia de las relaciones internacionales. Asimismo funciona allí el Museo de la Diplomacia Argentina.

Es considerado como monumento histórico nacional desde 1994 (MHN).

Today we take a tour of the San Martín Palace in the City of Buenos Aires.

The Palacio San Martín, also called the Anchorena Palace, is the ceremonial headquarters of the Chancellery of the Argentine Republic, dependent on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is located in front of the Plaza San Martín in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

The Palace of Fine Arts style was designed for Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena, a member of one of the most representative families of the Buenos Aires aristocracy, by the architect Alejandro Christophersen in 1905. Built from 1909, it was inaugurated by the Anchorena family to commemorate the centenary of the declaration of Argentine Independence. From its construction and during the twenty years in which it was owned by the Anchorena family, it was popularly known as the Anchorena Palace, until in 1936 it was acquired by the Argentine government and became the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was renamed Palacio San Martin. In 1993 the Chancellery Building (Buenos Aires) was inaugurated, a modern building for the operation of that Ministry, leaving the traditional palace as the ceremonial headquarters of the Argentine Chancellery.

The palace contains many works of art by Argentine and American artists of the 20th century, such as Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, Lino Enea Spilimbergo and Roberto Matta, it also houses a collection of Pre-Columbian art and a library specialized in international law and History of international relations. The Museum of Argentine Diplomacy also works there.

It is considered a national historical monument since 1994 (MHN).
