why do so many great musicians die young? is it that they leave us in their prime thus never have the chance to grow old/stale? or is it that we pay attention to legends who we've lost more than we appreciate the legends who are still around? if eric clapton had died while he was in derek & the dominos would people talk about him as a legend gone too soon? he's still alive now but you don't hear him discussed the way guitarists like jimi hendrix are. either way no one will argue that J Dilla was taken from us too soon, and that his untimely death was a tragic loss for the hip-hop world, but we should also remember to appreciate the legendary producers who are still alive and active today like DJ Premiere and Havoc before we have to eventually mourn them someday. just some food for thought.
