A walk in the Central Fells of the Lake District up to two Wainwrights plus the superb viewpoint of Fisher Crag.
The walk starts from Armboth Car Park next to Thirlmere. From the car park entrance we turn right and then after approx. 10 metres we head through a gate on the left hand side of the road. We follow the footpath through some old sheep pens and past some large boulders. The path continues up the fellside and is fairly easy to follow. The path heads through a gap in the wall and out onto the open fellside. We continue to follow the path up to the first fell of High Tove (515m) From High Tove we take the clear path in a south easterly direction to the summit of Armboth Fell ( 479m) This path is fairly boggy in places but is easy to follow. From Armboth Summit we follow the path in a south westerly direction for a short distance to the Wainwright Summit of Armboth Fell. We then retrace our steps back to the true summit of Armboth Fell and head to the viewpoint of Fisher Crag. The path to Fisher Crag is fairly non existent in places. We headed in the general direction of Fisher Crag making our own way through heather & long grass. A gate is reached giving access to Fisher Crag and is well worth the effort. The views over Thirlmere are superb and by far the best views of the day. From Fisher Crag we head back to the gate and turn right following the fence & wall down to a further gate.
Once through the gate we then follow the forest track down to the road where we turn left and walk the short distance along the road back to the car park. The first half of the Forest Track, the trees have been felled, but is a lot more pleasant lower down the track.
Distance is around 4.5 miles
