The first day of action for the 30th Anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing hydrated by vitaminwater finally kicked off the three leg series yesterday in Haleiwa. This event alone holds a heavy prize purse of $250,000 for the eight rounds of competition with 128 surfers to battle it out. The $1 million at stake for the entire Triple Crown is on the line. Amongst the variety surfers from around the world, Nathan Hedge (AUS), Cory Lopez (USA), Hank Gaskell (HAW) and Mason Ho (HAW) were clear standouts in the lineup yesterday.
