After showing that a function, f(x), can be seen as a linear combination of orthogonal functions, we use the Legendre Polynomials as the elements of this linear combination. This is because we already show that Legendre Polynomials are orthogonal and, with that result, we can construct what is known as Fourier Legendre Series.
