I own a digital TV tuner card now. This was something I had planned to get going all the way back to the beginning of my return to this channel (so that my archive backlog is more than just old VHS tapes and TiVo recordings), but only managed to get one after Christmas. I plan to use it to record TV shows and newscasts I find interesting.

This is just some test footage I recorded to see how it would work if I were to capture TV using my main desktop computer with the bundled WinTV software. While it did produce decent enough results, I would need to leave my computer powered on running Windows 10 in order for shows I want to record to actually be recorded. Plus, I wasn't getting good reception since my computer is decently far away from the window where I'd want to put the antenna. This is not ideal.

I ultimately decided to start capturing TV using a dedicated computer that was running Windows 7 and use Windows Media Center to facilitate the process. This produced far better results and meant I didn't have to leave my main computer on to do the work. The only issue I've experienced as of thus far are stability issues - sometimes the card just reports as an "Unknown device" and other times it crashes the entire system if I hotplug it. No idea why, but it'd make great BSOD compilation content if I ever get back to doing that.
