Evening wrapped the little forest in soft blues and warm hush. Hugo walked slowly along the leaf-spun path with his tiny brass lantern swinging at his side, its glow painting round puddles of light. Crickets chirped like tiny bells and the breeze sounded like a sleepy song.

Tonight Hugo carried a small parcel to Grandma Mole's burrow, but a gentle problem came along the way. His mint-green spectacles fogged with cool night air and the lantern began to flicker, making the path look wobbly and unsure. He paused on the wooden bridge, listening to the water whisper below.

Hugo tried to wipe his glasses with a cuff, but the fog returned with each breath and the lantern's light blinked low. He felt a tiny wobble in his chest, wondering which way to go without clear sight. The forest was calm and kind, but the dilemma stayed like a little cloud.

Nearby, soft sounds answered him — a rustle of squirrel paws and a distant owl hoot. Hugo thought about waiting until morning or asking for help, and his heart chose the brave small step of asking. He set down his parcel and called in a gentle voice, the sound floating like a lullaby.

He cleaned his glasses slowly with the denim of his overall pocket, humming a soft tune while he shook the lantern to wake its spark. The light hiccupped then steadied, casting a warm circle on the bridge boards. Leaves whispered and the night air smelled like pine and damp earth.

A friendly owl perched and breathed a gentle puff that cleared the last of the fog from Hugo's spectacles, and nearby fireflies blinked awake to guide the way. Their tiny lights dotted the path like floating buttons of gold, and the owl's hoot was deep and soothing. Hugo smiled, listening to the soft buzz and the creek's hush.

With clear sight and a steady lantern, Hugo crossed the bridge and reached Grandma Mole's cozy doorway where a warm light waited. He handed over the parcel and shared a small hug, hearing soft laughter and the kettle's gentle clink. The forest night felt safe and bright as they waved goodbye.

Back in his bed under a patchwork blanket, Hugo set his satchel and dimmed the lantern to a sleepy glow. He felt proud and peaceful, happy that asking for help and trying kindly had solved his problem. Hugo yawned, snuggled his beanie, and whispered, "good night".
