Tesla has just delivered the first batch of rear-wheel drive Model Y vehicles equipped with BYD batteries, sourced from their Giga Berlin factory in Germany. This marks the first time Tesla has incorporated BYD batteries into their production line, and the results are truly impressive.

Customers who have received these new Model Y vehicles have already shared their data on the charging capabilities and state of charge (SOC) of the car on the TFF forum, and the results are outstanding. According to customer reports, these Model Y vehicles with BYD batteries demonstrate exceptional charging performance, capable of charging from 11% to 71% in just 15 minutes.

The BYD battery-powered RWD version of the Model Y boasts a capacity of 55 kWh and an impressive range of 440 kilometers (273 miles). While the battery capacity may be slightly lower compared to the Long Range and Performance versions, the charging performance of this new Model Y is truly remarkable.

Thanks to the integration of advanced casting technology for the front and rear ends, similar to previous models, the significant difference lies in the battery itself, which is now supplied by BYD. The charging power of the new Model Y with BYD batteries consistently maintains peak power levels in the range of 170kW and above, even for extended periods of time. Notably, the power retention during later stages of charging surpasses that of the CATL LFP version, offering an enhanced charging experience.

When comparing the initial charging characteristics, the Model Y equipped with a CATL LFP battery shows similar performance, but power levels decline rapidly after reaching 50%, with a maximum support of approximately 110kW. In contrast, the BYD blade battery used in the Model Y sustains charging speeds of around 172kW until the battery level reaches 50%, after which it gradually tapers off to around 90%. This demonstrates that the Model Y with a blade battery outperforms the CATL version throughout the entire charging process, ensuring consistent and efficient charging.
