Long-time admirers of Rachel Portman’s work, we studied her music and distilled specific elements and devices. Then we worked with Rachel to choose her cast of instruments, finally settling on the unique ensemble in Tides. She then composed a piece of music specifically for this ensemble, and this further informed how we captured these instruments.
