BIM (Building Information Modelling) models are widely used in industry, both for planning factory construction and for planning daily operations. In order to keep these models as up-to-date as possible and to achieve a high resolution in terms of both time and space, the use of autonomous robots lends itself to this. The robot is equipped with a real-time laser scanner for collision avoidance and a high-precision laser scanner for measurement. It moves autonomously along suitable paths with the help of simulation-based control. High-precision 3D laser scans are carried out at defined stations. With the help of the robot's wheel odometry data, the laser scans are pre-registered in the virtual environment. The resulting point clouds are then subjected to further steps of automatic data processing: After a fine registration of the data, the number of points to be processed is scaled and outliers are removed in order to accelerate the process. High-precision geometries are then generated using triangulation and the BIM model is updated. This is now available with the most up-to-date information for further planning tasks.
