This distinctive sideboard features traditional design elements found in grain chests from the eastern region of China's Gansu province. The doors are adorned with creams and reds, creating a striking contrast against the black outer frames. The sideboard is crafted from poplar wood and dates back to the late nineteenth century. Today, it serves as a functional and visually appealing dining sideboard or storage unit. Originally, the front panels were fixed, but have since been converted into doors for easier access to the removable wooden boards in the top. Additional shelves have been added to increase practicality.

The square painted sections on the doors depict vases of flowers and valuable personal items against a cream background. This decorative style was popular among storage chests, reflecting the wealth and importance of the owner. Additional embellishments are featured on the lower panels, carved with intricate designs. Despite some markings and wear from years of use, the black lacquer finish on the top surface and frames remains mostly intact, contrasting with the worn areas around the feet to give the piece a unique character.
