Archery Calculations for Bowhunting! FOC, KE, and Momentum!

Описание к видео Archery Calculations for Bowhunting! FOC, KE, and Momentum!

In this video we are discussing the three most important calculations bowhunters should know! They are FOC (Front of Center), Kinetic Energy, and Momentum.

In archery F.O.C. stands for “front-of-center.”It is the percentage of the arrow’s total weight that is in the front half of the arrow. The more weight that is located in the front half of the arrow, the more forward arrow’s center-of-balance.

To calculate FOC you need to know the total arrow weight, the center of the arrow, and the center of gravity of the arrow (the balance point).

The second calculation is for KE and Momentum.

Think of kinetic energy (KE) as the hammer and your arrow as the nail. KE does the work, driving broadheads through hide, muscle and bone. While most bowhunters pay an awful lot of attention to arrow speed, it’s only one part of the KE equation. Kinetic energy is impacted not just by arrow speed, but by arrow weight as well.

Momentum is the amount of force necessary to stop a moving object.

Their calculations both involve mass, and velocity but are two totally different factors. KE favors speed and Momentum favors penetration.

Our recommendations is to use one of the free calculators online to get the numbers relative to your setup.

All you need to know is the arrow weight in grains and the speed of your arrow!

Once you have the numbers from your setup, you can determine what broadhead type is best, and what type of game your setup is suitable for!
