IN this video Heimler walks you though Unit 2 Topic 9 (2.9) of the AP Government curriculum. Many people have questioned the legitimacy of the Supreme Court's power over time. This is especially true when the Court hands down controversial decisions as it did with Brown v. Board of Education or Roe v. Wade.

Because of the Court's power of judicial review and its firm commitment to the principle of stare decisis and precedent, the Court's decisions have have lasting impact on American society. The Supreme Court justices are appointed for life, not elected by the people, and so when it hands down a decision that certain groups of Americans dislike, it has a way of raising the question: is the Supreme Court TOO powerful?
