Rajouri, known as Rajapuri in ancient times, has a rich history that dates back to the days of the Mahabharata, where it was part of the Panchal kingdom. Over the centuries, this region has been a significant center of power, culture, and trade, with influences from the Pandavas, Mughals, and Dogras shaping its unique heritage.

Our exploration begins with a visit to Shahdara Sharief, a revered Sufi shrine that has been a symbol of spiritual harmony in the region.

From there, we head to the Dudhadhari Temple, a serene temple that reflects the deep spiritual roots of the area.

We also explore the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gurudwara, a place that honors the legacy of one of Sikh history’s greatest warriors.

Rajouri, once part of the grand Gandhar territory, played a crucial role in the region’s history. During the Mughal era, it became a vital stop on the Mughal road, and later, under the rule of Maharaja Gulab Singh, it was renamed Rampur and emerged as an important administrative center.
