"This ugly joke " - made in the USSR 1966
story of the same name by Fyodor Dostoevsky

The hero of the picture, for three months as having been promoted to a general's rank, having heard a lot about humanism, decided to amuse himself with his own kindness and went to the wedding for a subordinate, which produced absolutely not the effect he had hoped for. The “ugly story” turned out to be a “joke”, especially after the general drank champagne for greater democracy.
