Ibanez SR506 Preamp Upgrade (Aguilar OBP-3) A-B Comparison

Before and after comparison of a body restoration and preamp upgrade for an Ibanez SR506.

Original Bartolini MK1 preamp was upgraded to an Aquilar OBP-3 module, which introduced a mid frequency selector (400 Hz or 800 Hz) and an active/passive bypass switch. Retained the original pickups (Bartolini MK1s).

Bass audio is DI'd into the PC, and a generic light compression was applied in post production (mostly to increase the gain of the original recording).

Please excuse the poor playing - This is my first 6 string, and the first bass I've owned for a number of years so I'm very rusty. Should be enough to give you an idea of the difference between the two preamps.

Body had been stained black at some point in its life, and given a terrible clear coat finish. Black finish was removed, and refinished with 3 coats of Tru-oil gun stock finish.
