"THE BOOK They Came From Inner Space"is an indie Sci-Fi/Fantasy feature film shot and produced in the San Francisco Bay Area.
It has been produced by Richard Weiss Productions, and written and directed by Ø.
Its camp and kitsch visuals have been described in the Press as cult-classic-film material and compared to Fassbinder's "World On A Wire". The Media has described its outdoor post-apocalyptic scenes as glimpsing Fellini's "Satyricon", and its denouement as echoing the home invasion scene of Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange". Other reviews have found its 1980's fantasy aesthetics reminiscent of Terry Gilliam at his adventurous best ("Time Bandits", "Baron Munchausen"), and its goofy and endearing visuals as enjoyable as anything in Ed Wood's canon, although a bit more meaningful and much more intelligent.
Other reviewers found THE BOOK reminiscent of George Lucas' "THX-1138", of Mike Kuchar's "Sins Of The Fleshapoids", and of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner independent film "Primer."
This futuristic fable, set in the 25th and 26th century (in the years 2284, and 2484), tells the story of alien doppelgangers using a subliminal book that has the power to alter the genetic make-up of every soul who reads it. The aliens' book, a potent instrument of alchemy, automatically neutralizes all negative emotions in whoever reads it. No more greed. No more anger. No more fear. No more war. Harmony on the planet.
A formula for Utopia? A secret group of dissidents determined to remain unchanged thinks otherwise.
Telepathic dialogues, parallel universes, time traveling, flying recreational vehicles, multi-dimensional beings, and illiteracy are dealt with in stylistically radical and surreal film. Its mesmerizing images have won THE BOOK multiple movie awards (Best of Show, at the 2011 Accolade Competition) (Best Narrative Feature, and Best Costume Design, at the 2011 Los Angeles Reel Film Festival)
