A glassmaker stood in front of a crowd. In his hand, he held a glass. He proceeded to strike it with a hammer. Then, he dropped it on the floor as hard as he could managed. Still, the glass didn't break. Instead, there was only a slight dent. The crowd watched as the glass returned to shape in a matter of minutes.

Expecting a hefty reward for his invention, he was executed by Tiberius Caesar who believed such material could devalue gold and silver.

There are various accounts of such an invention and modern science demonstrates it is possible to create such a glass with borax and boric acid added. Both of which were traded in from the East during the middle ages.

Of course, we can only speculate.

The glassmaker took his secret with him to the grave without so much as leaving an evidence of his name in the history book.
