十三拳 · Shi San Quan / Shísān quán, literally translated as 13 Fists / Punches is an introductory form to learn the basic postures and principles and elements that you will encounter throughout the majority of all Shaolin Fist Forms. It is an elementary Kung Fu Form and because of it’s simplicity it is suitable for anyone who would like to get a taste of the body mechanics and movement patterns that will also appear in advanced Shaolin Fist Forms.

Postures and Stances that are apparent in the tutorial are for example: Ma Bu (Horse Stance), Gong Bu (Bow and Arrow Stance), Xie Bu (Squatting Stance), Duli Bu (One legged Stance).
Techniques that are apparent are: Straight Punch, Slap Kick, Arm Bar, Backfist Strike, Upper head guard, Squatting Block, Sweeping Palm, Double Fists, Pulling and Pushing.

Together with Wu Bu Quan (5 Stances Beginner Kung Fu Form) which you also find freely on the YouTube Channel of Master Shi Heng Yi, they build the foundation practice to learn and improve the various principles that are embedded within the practice, such as Coiling, Charging, Breathing, Rooting and Structural Alignment.

Shi San Quan at the same time is the first form of the newly introduced Shaolin Duan Pin Graduation system, which is a standardized training and evaluation system from the Songshan Shaolin Temple China.

The form presented in this tutorial is taught by Master Shi Heng Yi, implementing various aspects of his own understanding of the form and can therefore slightly differ from the presentations and applications that can be found by other practictioners. Main emphasize of the practice is to:

· Improving coordination
· Stability of postures
· Principles of Movement
