The raid on the dry dock at St Nazaire by British Commandos and the Royal Navy, code named Operation Chariot is widely known as the greatest raid of all.

With the threat of the battleship Tirpitz overpowering much needed supply convoys in the Atlantic, the Allies quickly move to neutralise the threat. The solution was Operation Chariot. An adventurous Commando raid on the dry dock in the French port of St Nazaire.

Operation Chariot was as daring as it was crazy! The plan was to pack the HMS Campbeltown with explosives and ram her into the gates of the dry dock. Commandos would then cary out the main raid, destroying as much as they could before withdrawing to the surviving boats.

The St Nazaire raid is the ultimate story of bravery and courage, a raid where more Victoria Crosses would be won than in any other engagement of World War 2.

It's only right that Operation Chariot is remembered as the greatest raid of all.
