On April 13, 2024, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Trooper Contreras observed a vehicle driving erratically and fail to maintain a single lane of traffic. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 20-year-old woman. The police report indicates that Trooper Contreras could smell alcohol emitting from the woman and he noted that her speech was slurred. He asked the woman to step out of the vehicle. She initially denied consuming alcohol, but later admitted to drinking 2 shots of tequila. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. However, she complained about being cold, so Trooper Contreras allowed the woman to wear his official NMSP jacket. She then revealed that she was an aspiring police officer. She was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence and was placed in the back of the police vehicle. Her brother showed up on the scene and was eventually allowed to take her vehicle. At the NMSP station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the results were 0.20% BAC and 0.19% BAC. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
