Woodturning - Turning a Lidded Jewelry Box [Gorgeous Black Ash Burl & Gabon Ebony]

Описание к видео Woodturning - Turning a Lidded Jewelry Box [Gorgeous Black Ash Burl & Gabon Ebony]

This week I'm showing one method of how to make a lidded box or jar, using a nice block of black ash burl and little Gabon ebony for a knob / finial. It should be pretty easy to follow the process, but there are a decent number of steps in this project. I use several different tools on this one, including a few different bowl gouges, a skew, and a round nose scraper. Overall, the piece turned out very well; I think this is probably the nicest thing to come out of my shop in several weeks.

New for this video... multiple angles with picture-in-picture to help you get a clearer look at what I'm doing! I also summarize each step along the way, so I hope some of you find that helpful.

Something I learned while making this video is that I seem to be somewhat allergic to ebony wood. My forearms became a little red and itchy from the dust landing on them, but some cortisone cream cleared it up quickly. Obviously, it would be bad to breathe that in, so please use a respirator and be especially aware if you have sensitive skin or allergies. I'm also allergic to some rosewood varieties and to banksia pods, so if those bother your allergies, you might want to be extra careful with ebony.

I hope you enjoy the video and learn a little something from it. Thanks a lot for watching!

Please note, my videos are for entertainment only. They are simply demonstrations and are NOT intended to be instructional. Proper training and experience are essential before attempting to use any woodworking equipment. Do not attempt projects or techniques that are beyond your skill level or your comfort level! Serious accidents can happen in an instant and bandaging wounds or sitting in an emergency room is much less fun than woodturning. You are always responsible for your own safety. The only rules are: 1) Be careful; 2) Have fun.
