Mt. Elbrus | The Balkar People

Mt. Elbrus is one of the 7 highest peaks in the world, also known as the “roof of Europe”.

It is also famous for skiing, snowboarding and other types of tourism .

It is situated in Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, the homeland of the Balkar and Kabardin people group .

The Balkars are considered as the mountain people.

Their local cuisine is famous through our North Caucasus such as Khichini (хичини) and Shashlik (шашлык).

The Balkar people group were exiled from their homeland in 1944, during the WWII, and were sent to Central Asia. Their strong and healthy men stayed to help fight in the Russian-German war.
