How to keep paper towel dry under water. As you can see from the experiment, we were able to keep the paper towel dry under water.

How is this possible? It possible because of the air in the glass cup. So when we lowered the glass cup with the paper towel inside into the water, air is trapped inside and the air has no place to go. What happens is that the air pressure in the glass cup begins to fight off the air pressure of the water. At this point both air pressures are equal and that is the reason water never touches the paper towel.

But when you tilt the glass cup containing the paper towel as it is put into water, air pressures are no longer equal. This unequal pressure then cause the water to get to the paper towel, making it wet.
