Welcome to Sandbox Showcase! In this series, I talk about various problems in Oxygen Not Included and how I've solved them with my own designs in previous streamed and non-streamed runs, by building them in Sandbox mode.

In this video, I talk about how to set up Pokeshell Ranches using automation to allow new Pokeshells and Oakshells to be dropped automatically into ranches without Duplicants having to move them around with droppers. This will ensure our Duplicants don't have to risk their lives around angry Pokeshells which would otherwise damage them, and lets us separate out our different variants neatly.

Pokeshells eat a lot of Polluted Dirt and turn it into Sand, making them a potent source of filtration medium for large-scale industrial processes in colonies. While Pokeshells also produce a decent amount of Lime from their Molts, and Sanishells can remove Germs from liquids and produce some extra food for your colony, Oakshells are the main variant worth pursuing. This is because they produce regular Wood from their Molts unlike the other variants; this is enough Wood to significantly offset their diet requirements when fed into Ethanol Distillers. Oakshells thus let you turn small amounts of Polluted Dirt into very large amounts of Ethanol, Sand, and Carbon Dioxide, but some internal recycling needs to be established to get them going, so you may need to get started off of some Arbor Trees first. We're going to do a deep dive video on the maths behind this at a later stage.
