Although Mercedes-Benz AG has backtracked on its plan to become fully electric by 2030 where market conditions allow, electric vehicles continue to be a priority for the German colossus. To this effect, Merc is presently developing a plethora of new platforms, including the VAN.EA for light commercial vehicles.

The carparazzi have recently spied the first member of the VAN.EA family, which Mercedes-Benz Vans refers to as the VLE. Confirmed with seating for up to eight peeps, the heavily camouflaged VLE in these pictures is the direct successor of the V-Class passenger van.

It will be later joined by a VIP shuttle-like model dubbed VLS. The VAN.EA platform also supports commercial vehicles, which means that Mercedes will switch the Vito and Sprinter to said architecture in the near future. Better still, the VAN.EA is being developed concomitantly with the VAN.CA for internal combustion models.
