A shooting in the Capitol Hill neighborhood left one person dead and another in serious condition Thursday evening, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

The SPD confirmed the incident occurred near East Pike Street and Broadway. Officers responded to the scene after reports of gunfire in the area.

Seattle Fire Department crews treated the victim at the scene before transporting them to Harborview Medical Center (HMC), according to the SPD.

At 9:09 p.m., the SPD posted on X that while investigating, officers learned of a second victim, a bystander, who arrived at HMC with a gunshot wound.

The SPD said as of 9:50 p.m., one of the shooting victims died while being operated on, while the second victim was reported to be in "serious condition."
