Leicester Station is located on the Midland Mainline between London and Sheffield and Nottingham, the station also sits on the route between Peterborough and Birmingham via Nuneaton.

The station is managed by East Midlands Railway with services also operated by Cross Country Trains regularly calling here:

East Midlands Railway operate both long distance and local services from here,

Long distance services operate towards London St Pancras as well as towards Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield. These Long distance services operate roughly twice hourly through the week to the aforementioned locations. Traction for these services is now only with Class 222 Diesel Multiple Units, in the past Class 180 Diesel Multiple Units also were used and up until mid 2021 Class 43 High Speed Trains were also used however these have now been completely withdrawn,

Shorter local services by East Midlands Railway operate roughly every hour (Mon- Sat only) from here towards Nottingham, Lincoln and onto Grimsby, these services are operated using a mix of Class 158 and Class 170 Diesel Multiple Units, Up to May 2023 Class 156 Diesel Multiple Units also were used on these services

Cross Country Trains using Class 170 Diesel Multiple Units operate roughly hourly services towards: Peterborough, Cambridge and onto Stansted Airport as well as services towards Birmingham New Street via Nuneaton.
