Here's how to synthesize and apply Pulse Width Modulation to any waveform or wave shape. PW waves are appealing for all kinds of synthesis, and traditionally, PWM is great for warm, enriched "string-like" sounds. It is possible to generate PW with a Saw and Ramp wave (or 2 Saws, one flipped), and by offsetting the phase.

In this video we will apply this simple technique to a Wavetable in Absynth 5, demonstrating the common effect on the timbre. We will modify the wave shape and view each spectrum. I'll explain how this works as we discover that the ordinary Pulse wave form (or width of the Square wave) will give the maximum effect. However new timbre, subtle chorusing and vibrato-like effects can be achieved with every wave. Note that the typical wave shape "Pulse" is dependent on saw waves only, which are rich in harmonics.
