ZGMF-601R GuAIZ R

The ZGMF-601R GuAIZ R is a Mobile Suit introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.


An upgraded version of the ZGMF-600 GuAIZ, the GuAIZ R ("Reinforced") was developed after the signing of the Junius Treaty and served as ZAFT's mainstay mobile suit until the introduction of the ZAKU series mobile suit. Based on the operating data of the GuAIZ, changes were made to the GuAIZ R's thrusters and weaponry, but its basic body structure remained largely unchanged from its predecessor's. The GuAIZ R featured more powerful thrusters, with new ones mounted on the redesigned rear waist armor, and its backpack was also improved even though the movable side thrusters found on the GuAIZ's were omitted. In terms of weaponry, the GuAIZ R retained the GuAIZ's CIWS and beam rifle, but replaced the extensional arrestors with a pair of waist-mounted railguns, and the composite shield was changed to a new, easier-to-handle model. While all these changes were primarily meant to make the GuAIZ R easy to mass produce, they also significantly improved its overall performance, granting it higher firepower, mobility and maneuverability.
