Once upon a time, when affluent Bengali community used to venture to the west of Bengal, i.e to Bihar, in search of better Climate, Giridih was a prominent destination in their list. Many Bengalis even settled at Giridih, building or buying their own house. Even the great director and writer Satyajit Ray choose Giridih as the home of his iconic Science Fiction character Prof Shanku, in his books. In his books Ray mentioned about the Ushri River and the Ushri Falls. Giridih has evolved and transformed since then, in past many decades. Now Giridih is a busy town in the state of Jharkhand. Still tourists rush to Giridih for his main tourist attraction Ushri Falls, Parasnath Hills and sometimes for Khandoli Dam, especially in the winter season or in monsoon.

We went to Giridih on a 2 Day trip for mainly a visit to Ushri Falls, to refresh the childhood memories and taste the nostalgia, in the last week of December last year. We went first to Dhanbad by early morning Shatabdi Exp and then hired a Car to visit Ushri Falls and Khandoli Dam for the whole day. and then came back to Dhanbad for a night stay. The next day returned home from Dhanbad.

The Driver whom we contacted before reaching Dhanbad was Mr Aslam, with whom we met 3 years ago during our similar short trip to Bhatinda Falls and Topchachi Lake.

Total distance coverage for the trip is around 150 km.

🔴 Our stay at Dhanbad was at Jharkhand Tourism HOTEL RATAN VIHAR, same as our last tour to Dhanbad.
The Hotel is near Railway Station and rooms are available at very reasonable rate (Tariff: AC DB Room - 1200, Non-Ac DB Room - 800). The food is also good. But the Govt owned property has become old and lacks maintenance.

THE HOTEL IS LOCATED WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF DHANBAD RAILWAY STATION; THE ROOMS ARE SPACIOUS AND ROOM TARIFF IS IN VERY REASONABLE BUDGET. BUT THE HOTEL IS OLD AND LACKS MAINTENANCE.
THE STAFFS ARE FRIENDLY, BUT THE MANAGER OF THIS HOTEL IS FOUND DISHONEST.
IF YOU WANT TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL, PLEASE BOOK ONLINE THROUGH JTDC WEBSITE. IF YOU BOOK THE ROOM BY CALLING AT MANAGER’S NO. OR DO SPOT BOOKING, THEN THE MANAGER REFUSES TO PROVIDE BILLS.
