There were many brutal executions that took place during the Tudor Period, but one leading churchman who faced his death was Thomas Cranmer. He was a leading figure in the English Reformation, and became the Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I. But during the reign of Mary, Cranmer was sentenced to death. His execution is rather shocking and horrific with Cranmer being burned at the stake. His death made him a martyr, and he met his impending doom with courage and bravery.
