Literally, "Gunyo Choli" refers to a traditional Nepalese outfit for women and girls and, more significantly, "Gunyo Choli" as a ceremony refers to the celebration of onset of puberty for young girls in Nepal. In this event, young girls are offered the Gunyo Choli outfit after performing worships.

To be more clear, "Gunyo" generally refers to a traditional wrapped skirt (similar to a sari or a half-sari) and "Cholo" is the blouse. This attire is a traditional Nepali women's clothing, often made of cotton with traditional prints, though designs can vary across regional cultures. Along with the Gunyo Cholo, girls are often gifted with accessories like traditional jewelry (lachhi and sir-bandi) and a patuka (waistband).

The Gunyo Cholo celebration is a deeply significant traditional Nepalese ritual that marks a young girl's transition from childhood into womanhood. It's a joyous occasion, typically held before a girl reaches puberty, often around 7-9 years old, though the exact age can vary depending on family and community traditions.
