The Thar Desert extends from Rajasthan to Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana, covering over 77,000 square miles of area. It is home to extreme weather conditions. Creating engineering marvels that will develop the region is a tough job. However, braving harsh weather, different developmental projects are being undertaken in the region.

The long list of projects includes the HRRL refinery project at Pachpadra and Barmer in Rajasthan. In Gujarat, the development work includes oil drilling rigs to drill the oil wells in Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Cambay, and Mehsana for ONGC and the Gujarat refinery project works.

The other works include the cross-state Mehsana-Bhatinda pipeline project extending up to Punjab, effluent treatment plants at Becharji, Shobhasan and North Kadi for ONGC in Ukai Lift Irrigation schemes such as the Panam Lift Irrigation, ultra-modern canal top solar power plant on the Narmada Canal in Vadodara, Gujarat, the prestigious SAUNI Yojana scheme, the Kadana Lift irrigation Project, the Kutch branch canal and the Saurashtra Branch canal projects and the Saurashtra branch canal Hydroelectric power project in Gujarat.
