From the Vault: Ruger GP100 Revolver

Brownells Gun Tech™ and resident Revolvermeister Steve Ostrem tells us about the innovative Ruger® GP100® revolver. "Wait... the GP100® is still in production and isn't old or historic or collectible," you say? Maybe not now, but it will be! Introduced in the mid-1980s, the GP100® is a medium-frame double-action revolver designed around the .357 Magnum cartridge. Its cylinder locks at the rear AND the front, so when that cylinder is closed, it stays put. The GP100® is built to take full-power .357 loads all day and not shoot loose. You can get it chambered in .22 Long Rifle, .327 Federal Magnum, 10mm Auto, and .44 Special, as well. Most GP100s come with a full underlug, but some can be had with a half lug that makes the gun look a lot like a Smith & Wesson. Judging from the similar appearance, the Ruger team must have regarded the S&W Model 586 as the benchmark for their gun. Ruger's wheelgun is available in a large variety of variations, in blued or stainless steel, and a lot of distributor-specific special editions. There's a GP100® for almost any shooting application (plinking, hunting, daily carry, target shooting), and they are built to LAST. If you buy a GP100, make sure you update your will to specify who gets it when you pass on!
