This Leigh On Sea Old Town tour takes you right through the heart of this old town area that feels frozen in time! We start off at Bell Wharf Beach and the paddling pool before heading down onto the famous High Street of Old Leigh and take a look at the pubs, the little shops and cafe's and the lovely fish and chip shop.

We pass Bell Wharf and Victoria Wharf as well as Leigh Heritage Centre and Strand Wharf which is close by to our favourite place, the Old Leigh Studio Gallery!

The main seafood catch from Leigh fishing boats has always been shellfish and whitebait. Many of the local trawlers were at one time bawleys, and two of Old Leigh's pubs – the Peter Boat and Ye Olde Smack – owe their names to types of local fishing boat.

Leigh-on-Sea has frequently been cited as one of the best places to live in the UK, owing to factors such as its proximity to London, nearby outstanding Westcliff and Southend grammar schools, good access to sports and arts activities, multiple opportunities to develop skills, and a strong sense of belonging and community spirit. From the moment you step off the train, the road, which snakes alongside the railway track, boasts eye-boggling scenery on the right, especially at low-tide: boats perched on the mudflats, mastheads rattling in the wind, industrial docks, marshes, creeks, the distant horizon. There’s the briny whiff of fishmongers open to the street, just-caught wares glistening, and cockle-sheds and seafood stalls where pots of shrimps or whelks are yours for a snip.
