Rufus ~ Tell Me Something Good 1974 Funky Purrfection Version

The other day I watched a YouTube clip from Ellen entitled "Tell Me Something Good", that ended up being a compiliation of feel good anecdotes that had nothing to do with the Rufus song...but it got me thinking....All the talent involved with this funky group resulted in the one of the most popular funk bands of the 70's. DiscoCat heard this funky ass tune on the radio in the summer of 1974 and really turned up the volume! He almost filled the litterbox when the singer started singing..."You ain't got no kind of feeling inside.....Chaka's fiery vocals perfectly complimented the band's funky instrumentation on the Stevie Wonder penned "Tell Me Something Good", their fourth single which reached #3 on the pop charts. Rufus reached meteoric heights after that and in 1979 paired up with Quincy Jones (really hot after Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall") and released a classic dance tune with "Do You Love What You Feel". When the band was recording "Rags To Rufus", Ray Parker Jr submitted "You Got The Love" which was considered to be the strongest single until Stevie brought them "Tell Me Something Good". When it missed the top spot on the R&B chart, Ray got the last laugh when his song as recorded by Rufus hit #1 instead.
